Campaign Story
THE PROJECT
“The Art of Crying in the Bathroom” includes a cozy collection of poems, written based on a variety of peoples’ experiences with life. They portray different topics, perspectives, feelings, dreams, and fears.
You might think that compared to other projects, this is like a small pebble in a vast sea.Â
I agree, it does seem that way, but
feelings are not a small matter I say.
Did you know that you can die of a broken heart? It’s scientifically true. It’s called Tokotsubo cardiomyopathy, otherwise known as “Broken Heart Syndrome”.
And a heart can be broken in many ways, whether it be through losing a loved one, failing at something you worked really hard for, being mistreated and depreciated by the people around you, etc.
So if this book will help someone get out of their bed and give life a second chance, share their thoughts and feelings with others, or just have a good cry in their bathroom, it will have fulfilled its purpose.
What primarily fueled my desire to create “The Art of Crying in the Bathroom” was so others would be able to read something they can find comfort, support, or relatability in. And potentially reread it when they need a reminder.Â
It is what it is, honest feelings expressed through wordplay.Â
It’s reassuring when a complete stranger is going through the same hardship as you, right?Â
Makes you understand that you’re not alone.
My project has been a work in progress since longer ago, but I waited to take this step until I gathered enough material and maturity to convey the message in a way that would do justice to the people it was inspired by.Â
Some of the poems came to be as a result of strangers talking on the bus, others from my closest circle, some came from toddlers and children, others from the elderly or people on their death bed.Â
The writing I used is like the humans it was inspired by, wavering and ever changing, big and small, sometimes raw and direct, at other times laden with metaphors and dancing around the topic.

Food Lover | October 23, 2019 | Had the pleasure of reading one of the poems not only it helped me feel understood but also I am not alone. Often we don't know how to put into words how we feel or are too scared to do so, when people have the talent to write it so beautifully it does make the world a better place. Thank you Alma for doing this, million times thank you. |
