Who are we?

Kosova Makers League Foundation (KML) is a non-formal educational platform that organizes the largest robotics competition for primary schools and other educational institutions in Kosovo working with children aged 6-15.

Through organizing the largest robotics competition, KML provides all children, regardless of their background, with the opportunity to take their first steps in the field of robotics and engage in various activities with a focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) fields.
Until now, KML has distributed a total of 2100 free educational robots to 234 educational institutions in 30 municipalities of Kosovo, involving over 4500 students and more than 500 teachers.

For four consecutive years, the educational robotics competition has utilized mBot educational robots. However, starting from September 2022, the league has been updated with the new equipment, micro:Maqueen Plus. This new device has a lower cost, provides programming in two programming languages, and operates using the micro:bit board, which is already available in the majority of public primary schools.
Being a non-profit organization, KML has received all its support over the years through various donations, primarily provided by foreign donors.
This year, the robotics competition is supported by the United States Embassy in Kosovo.

What is our goal?

Our main goal is to ensure the provision of as many educational robots as possible, to be distributed for free in public primary schools in Kosovo, thereby achieving their digitization. This would enable the inclusion of as many children as possible in a new approach to education, where technology is used merely as a tool to encourage critical and creative thinking, teamwork, and communication skills—essential abilities to tackle the challenges of the century we live in.

Through the “One robot per child” campaign, we aim to equip at least 50% of public primary schools in the country, so that as many children aged 6-15 as possible can have the opportunity to engage with the world of robotics.

This way, an inclusive and healthy environment will be established in public primary schools across the country, allowing children of all genders, ages, and ethnicities to freely explore and be inspired as future leaders in science and technology.

How will your support help us?

Until now, through donations, KML has managed to equip 25% of primary schools in Kosovo with free educational robots, involving them in our educational competition.
Through your support, we will be able to achieve the inclusion of at least 50% of the total public primary schools in the country.

STRETCH GOALS

• • * According to the Ministry of Education statistics in Kosovo, there are 878 public primary schools (including both elementary and middle schools) registered for the school year 2021/22.
  • * In the Kosova Makers League Open Robotics Competition, a total of 212 public schools are registered.
  • * To achieve the goal of digitalizing all public primary schools in Kosovo, 666 more schools need to be included in our league and provided with free educational robots.
  • * In order to achieve this, KML has prepared two stretch goals in case of reaching the first goal with the above-mentioned budget.
