Campaign Story

It all started in summer 2016 when we brought together 45 volunteers in order to revitalise an abandoned building with the aim of empowering youngsters in Prishtina. During this process of hard work we gave a powerful statement to the people of Kosovo by showing them how much could be achieved when we get together and believe in our vision.

The revitalization of the space led us to the creation of the first community-run center in Kosovo named Termokiss. Our members are volunteers of different ages and professional backgrounds who gather many times a week in order to enhance the conditions of the space and to strengthen the sense of the community. We view the work of our community as part of a world-wide effort to maximize the use of informal learning and other forms of collective participation, creativity and exchange.

Our aim is to create a venue for people to meet in a non-commercial setting, whether it be for a workshop, artistic performance, to see a film, play rugby, wall-climb, have a drink, have breakfast or anything that could come to one’s mind with a good intention. The activities organized by our community are determined by both the needs of the community and the skills which the volunteers have to offer: we work to promote the ideas of mutual aid and cooperation.

Although much work has been done from hundreds of people so far, the space is still not totally functional and this comes down to some critical issues. Our space has no access to water, electricity, heating, no thermal insulation, floor installation or toilettes. Hence, we organize many of our activities in other locations to keep the community active until we have what we need to continue working in the space where it all started.

With your help we can fix these crucial problems that are holding us back from giving Prishtina a functional multi-purpose space. These are the immediate aspects of our infrastructure which need to be fixed:

• Floor work: 12600 euro
• Toilet equipment: 5900 euro
• Water and sewage connection to the main supply: 500 euro
• Electrical wiring installation: 1000 euro

We do believe that the existence and empowerment of such a center will contribute greatly in the strengthening of the community as well as advancement of the individuals/collectives who will find some personal space to develop their talent and ideas.
