Campaign Story

Prishtina Dog Shelter is a non-profit organization created to rescue, treat, shelter, and neuter Kosovo’s street dogs. Across Kosovo there are tens of thousands of street dogs living in the poorest of conditions – injured, sick, abandoned, and in need of care. Our mission is to rescue dogs and increase public awareness of and compassion towards dogs. Founded by Mentor Gashi in July of 2014, until today Prishtina Dog Shelter has rescued over 700 dogs from the streets, returning them to health, and preparing them for adoption with vaccinations and neutering.

Every day we receive calls about dogs that need care and shelter. Our fantastic volunteers and donors are making a difference every day, but we need your help!

Your support will help us:

– Care for sick and injured dogs.
– Vaccinate and neuter street dogs.
– Find good, safe homes for rescued dogs.
– Arrange travel for international dog adoptions.
– Maintain the vehicle we use to rescue dogs.
– Continue to improve our facilities at the dog shelter.

The € 2500 we’re hoping to raise from this campaign will be directed to all of the above, but more specifically we have several immediate needs.

1.) We have a few adopted dogs with homes waiting for them in the United States, and your support will help with their travel as they move on to better lives in loving homes.

2.) We’ve also been busy building new structures on our site in order to provide our dogs with more shade and safety, thanks to the support of our volunteers and a generous donation of wood from a local embassy. We would like to continue this project, erecting new structures and improving the existing ones. The summer months have brought an influx of puppies and older street dogs to our shelter and these improvements greatly improve our ability to house and care for them.

3.) As our population increases, we also struggle to provide enough food for each of our dogs. A portion of your support will help us increase our food supply and also improve the quality of our food supply, which is reliant primarily on donations from individuals and local bakeries.

4.) Finally, your support will also help us make some needed repairs to the vehicles we use transport our dogs. Thanks to the generous donation of one of our most dedicated supporters, we now have a second automobile to assist us in our daily tasks, from collecting sick and injured dogs all across Kosovo, to transporting our dogs to and from the veterinarian for vaccinations and checkups. Both of our vehicles, however, are old and in need of maintenance; your support will help us continue to be responsive to the calls we receive every day about dogs in need.

By rescuing, vaccinating, neutering, and re-homing street dogs, we are improving the lives of dogs all over Kosovo. Please help us continue and expand our work!
