Campaign Story

I am Valbona Sadiku from the city of Mitrovica, a municipal advisor to the Assembly of Mitrovica. I do a lot of volunteer work for my fellow citizens, and I know that in our city there is a shelter for abandoned women.This shelter includes all women from North Mitrovica, South Mitrovica, Skenderaj, Vushtrri, Zubin Potok, Zvecan. What worries me as a woman is that very few people are interested in supporting these women. Therefore I have decided to do something for these women.

For this initiative we have the support of a NGO called “Business Women Mitrovica” from Mitrovica who work in this direction and we have decided to work together to achieve this goal to support this shelter for women’s independence.
The organization has the capacity to organize courses for tailoring and hairdressing. Business Women Mitrovica is a NGO founded by business women who have registered businesses and have different opportunities for networking cooperation and the capacity to train these women for one year and also train the workers who work at the shelter, to certify them as professional trainers in the coming years.

These women are unprotected by the family and society, and many factors that have pushed these women to live in these shelters, are precisely unemployment and bad economic conditions. Apart from the shelter and psychiatric treatment, these women also need training to empower them and prepare them for the labor market. Most women in this shelter are uneducated and unable to work and therefore are forced to return to a violent environment.
I personally visited these women at the shelter, where I saw that they did not have any activity or course that would help them be independent and self-employed when they leave the shelter. The director is well aware of this initiative of mine. In discussion with the director I decided to ask for your help to offer them a tailoring course and a haircut course and prepare these women for the labor market, which in the near future these women will survive without having to depend on others. What I am asking is for all of us to get together and buy 5 sewing machines and the necessary tools for the hairdressing course. Indeed, it would be a great help for these women. The other machines and equipment we need will remain permanently at the Shelter for Victims of Sexual Violence. As a long-term and sustainable project, the shelter will have its own training center with these equipments, where all generations that will live in this shelter will enjoy the right of training and preparation for integration into society and the economic development.
