Face shields increase protection from COVID-19
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to surge, one of the things that has become terribly evident is that there isn’t enough personal protective equipment to go around to all the health professionals and caregivers who are putting themselves at risk when treating people struck with the disease. Face shields are generally not used alone, but in conjunction with N95 masks. Healthcare workers insist that – “If you have an N95 mask and you don’t have a face shield, you don’t have a proper protection.”
BONEVET transitions from education to manufacturing
BONEVET (bonevet.org) has started manufacturing face shields to protect medical workers on the frontline, who are risking their lives to save other lives from COVID-19 in Kosovo. In the past two weeks BONEVET has manufactured and has donated in excess of 1.000 face shields to healthcare frontline workers. Our present manufacturing capacity with 26 existing 3D-printers is 700 face shields per week.
There is an immediate need for 10’000 face shields
Medical institutions in Kosovo estimate that their actual demand for face shields is approximately 10.000 units. This number will increase if we consider the needs of the police, customs, public sector administration and the private sector. With BONEVET’s present manufacturing capacity it will take 16 weeks to manufacture 10.000 face shields. This time frame is too long, and it has to be brought down to at least 8 weeks to meet the immediate need for face shields.
What do we need?
To address this urgency the production time must be reduced to less than 8 weeks, which means the production capacity must be doubled. Consequently, BONEVET must purchase 43 new 3D-printers and increase the quantity of filaments. To raise the funds for the purchase of the equipment BONEVET has initiated this Crowdfunding Campaign through the reputable crowdfunding platform KOSOVAIDEAS.
