Campaign Story

The non-governmental organization (NGO) “Shtëpia ime” is a start-up NGO established in 15th of May 2018, by six highly motivated women with the purpose to serve the elderly people. It is one of the first NGOs in Kosovo of this kind, which will provide home care for older people from different ethnicities, since we know that the Mitrovica region is composed of almost all nationalities (Albanian, Serb, Turk, Bosniak, Roma, Ashkali, Egyptian), therefore all communities will be welcomed. 

The purpose of the organization is to ensure elderly persons in the region of Mitrovica access to safe accommodation, tender love, proper care, nourishment, health service and other basic needs through establishment and operation of a sustainable Old Aged home.

Our mission is to improve the status of older people and increase their feeling of ‘inclusiveness’ in the society.

To Ensure/provide a sound and friendly environment for the elderly people. To responsibly oversee and deliver high quality, caring, medical and non-medical home care services, in order to meet the diverse needs of individuals in our care.

The house will offer daily stays as well as permanent stay.

In order for the organization to begin the operation there was the need to rent a facility. We rented a 3 storey house with a yard, very suitable for our project, but it needs a lot of investments in the interior to make it adaptable for the elderly. We started with the renovation of the first floor with some symbolic assistance from the businesses of the region of Mitrovica. The ground floor together with second and third floor are unfinished as a result of the lack of budget. 

Our staff will consist of three caretakers, two female nurses and two male nurses, two chefs, two cleaners, a guard and the doctor who will make visits as needed. Everyone will initially work voluntarily. As for the elderly, the capacity of the home is able to accommodate 20 residents. The payment from their part will be symbolic only in order to cover the monthly expenses of the home such as rent, electricity, internet, water. It will have 24 hours of surveillance.
