Campaign Story
It is with great pleasure we invite you on our 5 th annual event: Cycle Kosovo for Children 2018. Building
on the success of the events that took place 2014-2017, we are organizing another charity cycle event. In
2017 the process of transferring responsibility of organizing the event to local cyclists was started, with a
view to ensuring the event is sustainable into the future, and this year the event will be organised by local
cyclists and Action for Mothers and Children.
We hope to again in 2018 raise funds for Action for Mothers and Children, which this year in partnership
with CKFC deliver C-reactive protein (CRP) and Hemogram equipment to the Neonatology Clinic in Peja
Kosovo.
CRP/CBC equipment to put it simply this equipment is essential to measure the severity of blood
infections in babies, allowing for prompt antibiotic therapy, proper duration of antibiotics, and treatment
follow-up by taking baby’s blood right at the incubator. It’s highly efficient; the results are ready in 4
minutes, after a single blood draw. Use of this equipment is expected to improve the efficiency of care
provided for our newborns in Peja.
The challenge in 2018 will be to cycle around Kosovo, with a short diversion in Albanian in 4 days passing
through many of the major cities. The total distance will be over 300 miles (500km) with over 7000 meters
of climbing starting from and finishing in Pristina, the route will take in the following:
Day1 (June t7h) Pristine- Podejevo- Mitro – Peje.
Day2 (June 8th) Peje –Junik – Albanian – Gjakove
Day3 (June 9th) Gjakova- Dragash – Prizren- Sharri Hotel
Day4 (June10th) Sharri Hotel – Strepce – Viti – Giljan- Pristina
Our goal is to raise at least €10000 to be able to purchase a gas analyzer machine – GEM 3000 for the
maternity unit of Gjakova. This analyzer is essential in measuring the level of O2 and CO2 in babies when
they have difficulties with breathing and is essential in diagnosing earlier if the baby needs to be referred
for specialized treatment in tertiary care. A end of event fundraiser will be held at Miqt Pub (behind the
Swiss Diamond) commencing at 1800hrs on the Sunday evening, June 10 th , involving raffle prizes, fun,
music, finger food and fundraising activities.
