School “Mazllum Këpuska”

The secondary elementary school “Mazllum Këpuska” started its work in 1954. In 1962 it continued its work in the areas where it now functions. Whereas in 1964 it was officially founded, and got the current name.

In the academic year 2017-2018, this school has 460 pupils from grades VI to IX, in total 18 parallels. At present, these students can benefit very little from an improvised and inadequate library for their needs, both from infrastructural aspect and literary materials. This depressing situation stems from the lack of financial resources needed from the school. 

If measures are still not taken, the library of this school will continue to be a space that does not promise friendship with the pupils.

What do we have in mind?

This project has completely non-profitable goals with the aim of transforming the current library of the Mazllum Këpuska secondary school into a friendly environment complemented by books that encourage reading.

We intend that with the financial support received from this campaign, we first fix the existing space where the library is located, and enrich this library with books which directly develop and broaden the pupil’s horizons.

All of these are part of the initiative for the school and students to establish reading clubs with continuous activities throughout the school year, placing the book as a permanent assistant during the educational process.

Who are we?

In close cooperation with the leadership of the “Mazllum Këpuska” school, respectively with the school director, Mr. Arbënor Pozhegu, the team that supports this campaign and will take care of its implementation, is made up of former students of this school.

This team is led by Jonila Batusha, one of the most distinguished students of this educational institution, who months ago in a postcard workshop organized by KosovaIdeas and BONEVET, expressed with great creativity her desire to have a library in the school as an essential need for them.

What do we need?

We need to restructure and expand the existing library space (from the space of 27.80m2 to 41.25m2), creating an appropriate reading environment, which will serve also as a cooperative space for group work after class time.

This solution consists in modeling bookshelves to ceiling upholstery so that we can get as much as possible space for additional titles. Beside the shelves, the space needs to be complemented with a round-table reading corner where students will exchange their thoughts, knowledge and ideas, a work desk (for individuals or groups) with adequate seating, as well as a desk for the librarian with a computer for bookkeeping and providing digital material.

The space needs to be painted in warm shades and have the adequate lighting. These works will be realized with the help of the local businesses of the former students of this school as well as the young makers of BONEVET.

In the end, but most importantly, the school library necessitates to purchase more than 250 books that are foreseen in the curriculum, as well as other reading materials that will be carefully selected in cooperation with the wishes of the school pupils.
